Wednesday evening brought heartbreak to Callahan County when a fatal crash claimed the lives of 36-year-old Kaley Loren DeMasters and an 11-year-old student from Eula ISD. The tragic incident unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 36 when DeMasters’s vehicle collided head-on with a fully loaded 18-wheeler after failing to stop at a controlled intersection.

DeMasters, an Abilene resident, was found unresponsive at the scene. The young student, whose name has not been publicly released, was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically passed away from her injuries. The truck driver, though shaken, sustained only minor injuries.
